In one of China’s provinces, the evacuation of more than 150,000 people has become necessary.

The reason, which should be surprising, is the migration of elephants.

An endangered group of Asian species of elephants decided to leave the Yunnan Nature Reserve 17 months ago.

During this period, during the journey, they traveled almost 500 kilometers and more or less damaged everything they encountered along the way – fields, millions of dollars worth of crops, buildings.

Despite a 17-month effort, the animals could not be returned to the protected area.

Now they have reached the southwestern province of Yunnan, where you have to visit many villages.

Provincial officials said locals were trying to protect their homes and crops, and confrontations with elephants could pose a threat to the population themselves, which is why they temporarily evacuated residents due to 14 Asian elephants approaching settlements.

The migration of elephants is being monitored by more than 25,000 law enforcement vehicles and helicopters.

Back at the group, several months of attempts to return to the reserve were unsuccessful, although the elephants decided to return on Sunday themselves.

According to experts, the exact reason why they left the reserve is unclear. According to one version, it may be the fault of an inexperienced leader of the group who misled Jogi and got in the way, while some think the elephants wanted to find a new home.

The Asian elephant is an endangered species. There are about 300 wild elephants in China, they mostly lead a wandering life.
